Make Less Mean More
Make Less. Mean More.
Why doing less often leads to a more meaningful wedding
There’s this quiet pressure that sneaks in when you start planning a DIY wedding.
It starts small.
A few saved ideas. A couple of things you’d genuinely love to make.
And then suddenly…
everything feels like an option.
Signage. Invitations. Favours. Table settings. Decor.
Each one beautiful. Each one meaningful. Each one… added to the list.
And somewhere along the way, it stops feeling creative
and starts feeling like something you should do.
You don’t need to make everything
Choosing to DIY your wedding doesn’t mean signing up to make all of it.
But it can feel like that.
Because when everything looks meaningful, it’s hard to tell what actually is.
So you say things like:
“We’ll just keep it simple”
“We’ll figure it out as we go”
“It’ll be worth it in the end”
Until...
it’s not simple anymore.
You’re low on time, second-guessing everything,
and wondering why it all just feels… a bit heavy.
More doesn’t make it more meaningful
This is the bit that gets lost.
Meaning doesn’t come from how much you make.
It comes from what you choose to make.
One thoughtful detail that actually reflects you
will always feel more personal than ten things made out of pressure.
The shift that makes this easier
Instead of: “What else could we DIY?”
Try: “What would actually feel meaningful to create?”
This filters things:
Through your style.
Your time.
Your capacity.
Not what’s trending. Not what you’ve seen. Not what you feel like you should do.
A simple way to sense-check your ideas
When you’re deciding what to make, come back to this:
Your style
Does this actually feel like you, or just something you liked on Pinterest?
Your time
Will you enjoy making this, or will it sit half-finished in the corner?
Your budget
Is this adding value, or just adding another task?
Some things won’t hold up under that.
That’s not a problem.
That’s clarity.
Choosing less isn’t missing out
It can feel like skipping something means losing something.
But usually, the opposite happens.
When you choose fewer things:
you actually enjoy making them
you have space to be creative where it matters
and your wedding feels more like you, not a collection of ideas
The right details get to stand out.
If you’re still figuring out what to make
If your notes app (or Pinterest board) is starting to look a bit chaotic
and you’re not sure where to start…
That’s exactly why I put together the Should I Make This? guide.

It helps you decide what’s actually worth your time —
based on your style, your budget, and how much you realistically have capacity for.
